History Repeats Itself, Part 3: 1980's and 1990's
Friday, July 10th, 2009 @ 03:59pm
Now that we have established that most of the hottest trends seem to be coming from past eras including the 1950-1970's, it's no surprise to hear what comes next . The eighties and nineties are the next stop on our fashion train. Thinking back on some of the fashion risks we took during that time may seem a little frightening as we were all fairly certain that those catastrophic fads were gone for good. When it comes to fashion, never say "never"!
Has it really been long enough that the 90's trends can already be repeated? Looks that we all thought were banished forever with promises to ourselves that we would never be caught in them again have made a quick comeback; at least for a while. Stretch leggings, acid-wash jeans, neon colours, tapered pants, shirts off the shoulder, Keds, denim jackets, leg warmers and scrunchies. Need I say more or do you get the picture? The last but definitely least favorite recent come-back, is the tie-dye, with an updated unique twist to it. The tie-dye effect is now upgraded, and done with computer image printing versus in place of the good old fashion tie-up-the-shirt-and-dip-it-in-different -colour dyes. How hot is that accompanied with big hair and loud make-up?
Furthermore, guess what the 2009 trend is? It is big and it is certainly bold. Some are now even saying the bigger and more space-age the better. Both Lady Gaga and Rihanna have been spotted wearing outfits accentuated with this item.... shoulder pads! Lady Gaga is officially, in Beutify's eyes, the spokesperson for the 1990's. More and more are we seeing these trade-mark accent pieces coupled with a chic blazer. It gives the image that our strength parallels men and we are definitely more daring, in the fashion sense, and in the "get down to business sense".
Recent fashion trends have been all repeats of past years, so what does that leave us with trends for years to come? Will we keep traveling further back in time to copy old trends and bring them back to the future? Now is the time we need to start creating new fads and trends so that in the future there will be something new to copy and call our own.
